Dining at Mirko Pasta

Mirko Pasta is the name for a group of restaurants featuring authentic Italian creations. Chef Mirko Di Giacomantonio is from the small town Tortoreto in Italy. He learned to cook from his grandmother, Rosa. Watching his grandmother’s hard work as she lovingly placed fresh food before the family inspired him to bring that tradition to his restaurants in Georgia. Before opening Mirko Pasta, Mirko worked as a chef and as a manager in numerous restaurants in Italy, Belgium, Germany, Romania, and the United States.  After moving to Athens, GA, he decided to make the charming city the birthplace of Mirko’s Pasta. The restaurant has several locations and I think the best one is in Buford, a growing area of Gwinnett County.

I recently ate at Mirko, and it was delicious. They feature a unique, build your own pasta menu as well as choice appetizers, salads, entrees, and dessert. I went with the build your own pasta option, and I was not disappointed.  I ordered the tagliolini, flat spaghetti noodles, with Pollo e Pepperoni sauce. The sauce consisted of roasted red bell peppers and chicken in spicy tomato sauce. Before the meal, they brought us homemade bread with a house olive oil and garlic dipping sauce. I helped myself to several samples to better report how wonderful the combinations. The main course was excellent as well. Mirko makes everything from scratch and uses all natural ingredients. I was completely satisfied with the meal, and I got it for a great price. Pasta and sauce cost 3.99 each, with ravioli options costing slightly more. The restaurant even features a special on Monday when kids eat free (at select locations they offer free pasta Mondays, and you only pay for the sauce).   Check out what is offered in Buford.  That is the only one I care about for this blog.

The staff at Mirko was friendly and helpful recommending food choices, patiently waiting for me to decide between the array of pastas and sauces. They set the dry pasta out for you to pick precisely which kind you’d like. Our waiter checked on us diligently, and the owner of the restaurant stopped to ask how things were before taking my plate. The environment, with its rustic Italian decorations with a modern spin, along with helpful, friendly faces made the dining experience a great one. I would definitely go back or recommend it as a place to eat out one night for a family on a budget. You get plenty of food for your money, and will have a great time in the lively and inviting environment.  Check it out just off the Hamilton Mill exit on I85.  The address is 3265 Sardis Church Road Buford, GA 30519.
